2023 year-end inventory - health food records

According to the special food information inquiry platform of the State Administration for Market Supervision and Administration (hereinafter referred to as the special food information inquiry platform), the Food Evaluation Center of the State Administration for Market Supervision and Administration (hereinafter referred to as the food Evaluation Center), and the provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government officially publicized the information queried, subject to the public and release time, the time is up to December 31, 2023, A total of 3,648 types of health food have obtained records, of which 36 are imported products, and the remaining 3,612 are domestic products.

According to the "Health food registration and filing management Measures", the use of raw materials have been included in the health food raw material catalog and the first imported health food that belongs to the supplement of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients need to be filed. Therefore, the range of products that can apply for the record of domestic health food and imported health food is different, compared with imported health food, domestic products can also apply for the record of seven health food raw materials such as coenzyme Q10, fish oil, ganoderma lucidum spore powder, spirulina, melatonin, soy protein isolate and whey protein.

Record of imported health food

According to the information released by the Food Evaluation Center, there are a total of 36 imported products with record certificates in 2023, far exceeding the number of import record certificates in 2022, and the number of products with record certificates over the years is shown in Figure 1.

(1) Record of imported health food in different countries or regions

The imported health food came from 6 countries or regions (as shown in Figure 2), of which the United States had the most, with a total of 14; Australia and New Zealand followed with eight and seven, respectively.

(2) Information about the recordholder of imported health food

A total of 11 enterprises have obtained the record certificate of imported health food, as shown in Figure 3.

(3) Distribution of registered nutrients of imported health food

In terms of the types and quantities of supplementary nutrients, the products that supplemented 3 or more nutrients were the most, with a total of 19; The second is the supplement of a single nutrient, a total of 12, and the last is the supplement of two nutrients, a total of 5, as shown in Figure 4.

(4) Record dosage forms of imported health food

The imported health food dosage forms approved in 2023 are relatively rich, including 5 dosage forms: tablets, capsules, soft capsules, drops and granules, as shown in Figure 5.

Record of domestic health food

According to the special food information query platform and the information officially publicized by provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, a total of 3,612 domestic products with filing certificates in 2023, of which 1,316 are non-nutrient supplement products (accounting for 36.4%) and 2,296 are supplement nutrient products (accounting for 63.6%).

(1) Statistics on the number of records of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government
As can be seen from Figure 6, Shandong Province has the largest number of records, accounting for 27.4% of the total number of domestic records, followed by Anhui Province and Guangdong Province, accounting for 17.7% and 9.4% of the total number of domestic records, respectively.

(2) The record of domestic health food
In 2023, a total of 576 domestic enterprises have obtained the filing certificate, and the top three enterprises are: Weicrinoids Biotechnology Co., LTD., Hubei Kangencui Pharmaceutical Co., LTD., Weihai Ziguang Biotechnology Development Co., LTD. The top ten companies and the number of registered products obtained are shown in Figure 7.

(3) Types of non-nutrient supplement products for filing

In 2023, a total of 1316 types of non-nutrient supplement products have obtained filing certificates, accounting for 36.4% of the total number of domestic filing products, of which the most approved products are products using ganoderma lucidum spore powder as raw materials (412 types, accounting for 31% of the total number of non-nutrient supplements). The fewest were soy protein isolates and/or whey protein as raw materials (16, representing 1% of all non-nutrient supplement filings), as shown in Figure 8. The "Health food raw material catalog Soy protein isolate" and "Health food raw material catalog Whey protein" were officially implemented on October 1, 2023, but the filling function of the two raw materials of the health food filing management information system was only put into trial operation on November 28, 2023, and as of December 31, 2023, Within nearly a month, there are 16 types of protein powder health food that can be queried for the record, and it is foreseeable that there will be many protein powder products that apply for the record in the future.

(4) Record of nutrient products

a. Types of domestic nutrient supplement products
In 2023, a total of 2,296 domestic nutrient supplement products received filing certificates, accounting for 63.6% of the total number of domestic filing products. The single nutrient supplement category has the largest number of products, with a total of 966, accounting for 42% of the total number of registered products of all nutrients, as shown in Figure 9.

b. Products that supplement a single nutrient

Among the products that supplement a single nutrient, statistical analysis shows that vitamin C supplement products are the most, with 409 types, accounting for 42.3% of the total number of products that supplement a single nutrient. The statistics of the ten most popular nutrients for single nutrient supplement product filing in 2023 are shown in Figure 10.

c. Products that supplement both nutrients

Among the products supplemented with two nutrients, the products supplemented with calcium + vitamin D were the most, with 234 types, accounting for 40.7% of the total number of products supplemented with two nutrients. The statistics of the top 10 products supplementing the two nutrients are shown in Figure 11.

d. Dosage forms of domestic nutritional supplement products

From the perspective of product dosage form, among the 2296 products that obtained the record certificate of domestic nutrient supplements, tablet products were the most (including ordinary oral tablets, chewable tablets, effervescent tablets, lozenges), with 1363 products, accounting for 59.4% of the total; Followed by soft capsule products, there are 466 types, accounting for 20.3% of the total; Gel candy products ranked third, with 159 products, accounting for 6.9 percent of the total. The quantity of products in different dosage forms is shown in Figure 12.

The relevant departments of the state have been actively promoting the formulation of the catalogue of health food raw materials, as the research on some health food raw materials tends to mature, more and more health food raw materials will be included in the catalogue of raw materials into the category of filing, thereby reducing the cost of enterprise declaration, conducive to the better and faster development of the industry.
